Selby in now in his forever home. His new owner fell for him immediately, thank you to Dawn for caring for him and finding him a new home.

Our Selby. His story goes back a couple of years when he first came to our shelter. He was a stray left abandoned by his previous owners, it was now down to TAS© to find him that forever home that he sorely deserves. We was aware that his age was against him as he was 7 years approximately at the time and the shelter having much younger staffordshire bull terriers, these younger dogs were always chosen in favour over Selby, but we weren't for giving up on him.
He was with us for many many months before we found him a place in a foster carer John, who also had a dog of his own; would gradually introduce Sebly to his own dog as Selby doesn't get on with other dogs. In time Selby became good friends with this dog and he was then in a foster home untill we eventually found Selby a permanent place to live. A gentleman who lived by himself was looking for a forever campanion and he fell in love with Selby, and it was the happiest of endings.......
A year later we were surprised to see Selby on a lead with his foster carer John coming into the shelter. He kept in contact with Selby and was asked by his owner if he could take Selby back to the shelter for him as he was in no fit state to do this himself. Selby's owner suddenly became very ill and was incapable of looking after Selby anymore.

So now we have Selby back with us looking for someone to take him and love him once again. He has the softest of nature and many times rolls on his back for a belly tickle. Below there are pictures of him in his latest foster home with Dawn Graham who tells us how lovely he is and how good he is in the home. Dawn has been very good having Selby with her and he will be back at the shelter from Monday 21st May. Dawn created a Facebook Page for him under Selby Graham which you must see.
We know its not going to be the easiest tasks for us to find him that forever home again as so many come to our shelter looking for small cute dogs in belief those dogs make a better dog, but not always do they have a better personality than our Selby.

If you are thinking of adopting a dog, please consider Selby. Everyone is welcome to come down and see him and we can show you what a loving boy he is and I'm sure he'll roll on his back for his belly to be tickled.

Open 7-days a week 11am-5pm

Tameside Animal Shelter© has been helping animals in need since 2001.

We have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers working full-time in order to give shelter to

any animals we receive, until they can find their Forever Home.

We don’t receive any public funding or grants, and we survive off the generosity of donations from you.

If you feel you can contribute, please Donate.

We are also always looking for volunteers and foster homes to help us look after the animals.

Here at Tameside Animal Shelter
© we strive to provide the best possible lives for
our animals, and so we subscribe to the following mission-statement:

  • To provide medical attention to any animal who is brought to us.

  • To alleviate any suffering in the animals we receive; either mental or physical.

  • To keep all animals well-fed, exercised and warm until a suitable new home can be found.

  • To ensure all animals taken into our care are neutered/spayed where possible.
Tameside Animal Shelter© has a strict policy of not providing animals for breeding. We believe there are currently enough animals without homes.

  • To give every animal the best chance at a new life.
Here at Tameside Animal Shelter© we keep animals a lot longer than many places to ensure they are placed in loving home. We never put a healthy dog down unless, after consulting with our vet, there seems to be no quality left in their life. Rest assured that this decision is never taken lightly.

  • To provide home-checks to ensure that any animal we re-home will be going into a suitable environment.
